Farther Sight: They Work || Joshua & Louis
He listened as Louis talked about how the goggles worked, taking them carefully and putting them on. He did everything as Louis told him, and smiled when the potion was broken down in the lenses before his eyes. Laughing, Josh shook his head. “Incredible….
“I guess,” Louis said, trying to be humble but his smile gave him away. In reality he was supremely proud of these goggles; they were his first completed invention, ones he would be proud to share with the world once they were ready. And if others didn’t like them as much as he did? Well, he’d cross that bridge when he came to it. “thanks,” he said and took the batboy sandwich offered, more excited than hungry.
Suddenly, a thought struck him that had been in the back of his mind for a while. They were an odd pair, he and Josh, and the whispers had eventually met louis’s ears “hey, Joshua?” Louis asked, looking over at his friend as he took a bite “why do you hang out with me?”
Ooc: won’t let me fix it mobile, pretend it was on Louis.
Joshua took a bite of his sandwich and pulled the flask from his coat pocket. Leaning back against the stone wall, he shrugged lightly and took a swig. He knew what he wanted to say, but was it really appropriate. Taking another bite of his sandwich, he chewed slowly before looking over at Louis again.
“I guess because I like too.” He shrugged again, raking his hair back. Licking his lips, he let the silence fall between them again for a minute before sighing. “I don’t know. I think you’re… cool.” Glancing over at Louis again, he gave a tiny smile. “You aren’t annoying like a lot of people, and you don’t treat me like a freak.”

I don’t think I’ll be going. Unless Louis is. Then I might go.. What the hell kind of party doesn’t have alcohol.

He listened as Louis talked about how the goggles worked, taking them carefully and putting them on. He did everything as Louis told him, and smiled when the potion was broken down in the lenses before his eyes. Laughing, Josh shook his head. “Incredible. You really did it. You’re amazing, you know?” His cheeks tinted pink again. Yes he liked Louis. And the age thing, as much as he used it as an excuse, it didn’t really bother him. What bothered him was that Louis was too good for him. Way too good. And he didn’t want the other to be hurt at all.
“Not that amazing,” he mumbled, embarrassed. His ears turned pink, and he continued on to say “I have ideas for selling them. Some people are going to want more and some are going to want less, so I was thinking…” he said, corking the potion, “I’ll make two other versions. I’ll do one that just lists the potion, one that lists ingredients, and one that either will tell you how to make the potion or, perhaps, where to find instructions on doing so,” he said He couldn’t believe this was all working out; this was his first real invention, one that could start a whole career.
Joshua shook his head. “You don’t give yourself nearly enough credit.” He said, setting the goggles down again. Getting up for a moment, he grabbed his bag and came back, rummaging through. Pulling out a sandwich wrapped in plastic, he held out half to Louis. “Lunch?” He asked, knowing he would only eat a tiny bit of it.
Joshua raked his hair back and looked down at his shoes as Louis set about his work, getting the fire going. Closing his eyes, he took in a breath and expelled it slowly. When he wasnt blushing anymore, he moved around and took his seat across from Louis on the floor, the fire and potion between them. “Well that’s good.”
He handed Joshua the goggles and told him how to work them as the potion began to steam “Give them a shot,” he said happily. OK, so he wanted Joshua. He’d admit it to himself and to his sister. But really -what shot did he have? Not much of one, that was for sure. Look at the age difference; what would he want with a guy so much younger. Nothing.

When Louis threw his arms around him, Joshua stumbled back a little, managing to keep them both upright. He had little choice but to hug back to do so, and laughed lightly. “Really? That’s awesome!” When they both calmed down, he realized he was still gripping onto Louis and blushed furiously, letting going. “So.. um..”
When the two let go from the hug, Louis blushed like mad. Was he crazy? What was he doing? He turned away, hoping the male hadn’t noticed that his face was Gryffindor red, and bent down to get a fire going to show them off. “Y-yeah. I got them to work this morning. I.. thought it might be a fluke, but then they worked” he set up a potion to heat up, uncorking it.

Joshua had gotten a note from Louis to meet him in the tower. They’d missed a couple days of lunch together and Josh felt a flutter in his chest when he thought about it. Louis was too young for him. And besides, he was no good for the other boy. The Weasley was such a good person. Joshua just.. wasn’t. Raking his hair back, he headed up the steps, dropping his bag near the door. “Hey.” He said, seeing the other boy standing there, his back facing the door. “What’s up?”
Louis spun around quickly, nearly falling over in the attempt. He was too excited to slow down, to give himself a second. He had the goggles in his hand as he rushed over to the older male, throwing his arms around the other in an excited hug “They work! They work, they work, they work!” he said excitedly, giving the other male a squeeze.

Louis jumped when the other male spoke, having been completely focused on his work. He sighed. “Almost,” he said. “We’re still on the same issue as a couple of days ago. I think I may need some magical component…” he paused, and an idea had occurred to him, as they often did when the two were together “Maybe I should look at how they make those quills that write on their own,” he said “There might be a component in that that I can translate over to these,” he said excitedly.
Louis’s face went a deep, dark red when the other male brought up the chocolates “It’s nothing, really…” he said “I mean, it was… it was an impulse. I thought it might be nice,” he played it off. “I didn’t expect anything. I mean, we’re not in a relationship,” he said. He wasn’t meeting the other male’s eyes, and his voice was low. As much as he wanted to hide it, his embarrassment was obvious.
Josh couldn’t help but smile, even when his own cheeks flushed a tiny bit at the mention of them not being in a relationship. Louis was absolutely adorable when he blushed like that. He was resisting the urge to hug the other. “I appreciate it.. I’ve..” He chewed his lip. “I’ve never gotten anything on Valentines day before.”
“I’m sure it wont take you long to figure out how to get them to work.” He said, grateful for something to change the subject with. “You’re fantastically smart, Louis.”
